Time is running out for the universe’s most famous Time Lord as the BBC’s trailer for the next Doctor Who special, “The Waters of Mars,” arrived this weekend.
Airing on BBC1 on Nov. 15 (and all over the internet a couple hours later), this contained sci-fi/action fest will be the final stand-alone story for David Tennant’s 10th Doctor. When the Tardis next appears around Christmas for a year-ending two-part story, it’ll be Tennant’s final appearance in the role before 11th Doctor Matt Smith takes over for the 2010 season.
This past year featured only four Doctor Who specials, allowing Tennant to play Hamlet onstage. When Smith arrives next spring, his Doctor will enjoy a full season. If U.S. viewers are willing to wait and watch the new episode without violating international copyrights, it’ll air on BBC America Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
